The Next Step

- The Book for Strength and Conditioning Professionals
I got a lot out of the NSCA Sport-Specific Training Conference, but this was the ultimate prize. I purchased a copy of the latest edition of the ultimate resource for high caliber fitness professionals. However, purchasing it meant more than just acquiring an important text– it meant the initiation of a new goal. This book is the foundation for NSCA’s highest certification, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). At this point I am not sure when I will get really serious about pursuing this ambition, but it is exciting to take the first step . . . and a daunting first step it is! When you see articles on health and fitness, there is a good chance the authors have a CSCS behind their names. It is considered by many to be equivalent to a higher level degree, and it does not come easy. It is earned! Oh well, I’ve heard many important men in my life reflect that no goal is too big if it is part of the plan for your life. I’ll just have to give it the old college try!

I'd like to wear a badge with this on it someday!
NSCA SSTC Day 2
And so it comes to a close–day two of the NSCA Sport-Specific Conference, and I am worn out. It was another day of mind challenging presentations, and, once again, I was humbled by the vast amount of theoretical and applied knowledge. It seemed almost as if everyone of the speakers was the perfect combination of gritty coach and clinical researcher. I was utterly astounded by the amount of biomechanical and physiological vocabulary that was thrown around casually.
However, as I said before, each time I attend one of these conferences or symposiums I come out changed–a little torn down, but a LOT stronger ultimately. They also help hone my passion and highlight what I love and what I don’t. Ultimately, they make me feel so proud to be affiliated with this organization. I feel honored to be included among all the other NSCA fitness professionals in this country and around the world. I will be including more thoughts on my experience. I can’t let some good content go to waste!
